Four Tips To Make Your Sabbatical Travels More Meaningful

Four Tips To Make Your Sabbatical Travels More Meaningful

After working in the same company for years, some employees get the chance to file for a sabbatical leave. Others can even continue to receive their complete salary even while on a break. It may sound too good to be true but it is in fact a fitting reward for employees who have been loyal to a company for a certain period of time. If you are one of the lucky people who are fortunate to take a sabbatical leave and are wondering how best to spend it, traveling is undoubtedly a great option.

A change of scenery coupled with new experiences can effectively provide the relaxation and leisure you have always wanted. However, aside from its recreational benefits, sabbatical travel can also be a chance for self-growth and exploration. The following list four tips to make your sabbatical travel adventure more meaningful.

Fulfill a bucket list item.

Is there a special destination you have always wanted to visit? You probably wanted to try a certain activity in this place as well. Maybe you wish to take a stroll along the Great Wall of China or take an epic road trip to a US state. Or you may want to try a local delicacy or attend a popular event in a quaint foreign town. Make your sabbatical travel more memorable by taking the time to fulfill items in your bucket list.

Learn a new skill.

You might be on a break but your chance for a job promotion or salary increase can still be possible upon your return. That is if you use your sabbatical leave as a chance to learn a new skill. You can take a short course on something that will upgrade your competencies and increase your knowledge. It may be a little challenging goal to travel and study at the same time but the rewards you will gain will surely be worth it.

Try a new career.

To travel and work is another wise option for those who love hitting two birds with one stone. It is also a chance to explore other fields or careers like teaching or writing. One way to do this is by sending job applications to companies in your choice of destinations before your sabbatical leave. You may even discover your life’s purpose at the end of your sabbatical.

Do something good for others.

Your career or work schedule may have prevented you from answering calls for volunteerism in the past. With your sabbatical leave privilege, you now have free time to extend help to others. Another good news is that it is something you can do while traveling. You can apply to be a part of groups that organize worthy causes to far-flung areas. Aside from the satisfaction of doing good to others, you also get a chance to closely mingle with the locals, giving you in-depth knowledge about the place you are exploring.

Who would say no to the idea of taking a sabbatical leave? The chance to enjoy a long vacation with the assurance that your job will still be waiting upon your return is one of the best perks that a firm can offer to their employees. As not everyone gets the chance to take a sabbatical leave, those who do should make sure to make the most out of this privilege.

Aiming To Be More Productive? You Need To Learn These Secrets!

Aiming To Be More Productive? You Need To Learn These Secrets!

Most of us do our jobs with the greatest intentions. So you aim to accomplish more in less time and gear up to walk the extra mile. However, several factors and time constraints may make it hard for you to finish a task. Others try to stretch the day by working longer hours which can lead to stress and fatigue. Aside from the fact that it may pose problems in the long run, devoting longer hours to complete a task actually contradicts the true meaning of productivity.

If it takes you about three hours to finish an assignment that can normally be done in an hour, you are surely not being productive. The unnecessary extra hour you spend on a task means a waste of money and resources. So do yourself a big favor and break free from the clutch of unproductivity! Fortunately, the way to being more productive is not a long-buried secret. You can start by observing how the most efficient people do their tasks and emulating the strategies that will work for you. Check out the following suggestions:

Plan Your Day

Your goal to make the most out of every minute in a day will be doubly harder without planning ahead. If you do not devote some time to think the most efficient way to go about your day, you are just like a blind man juggling several balls at hand. You are likely to drop one or two balls in the process. Starting your day with a list of target goals is a giant leap towards getting things done.

Tackle The Hardest First

Take a look at your to-do list, determine the most difficult, and work on it right away. Checking off the most dreaded task so early in the day is like lifting a huge boulder out of your way.  This is the task that probably worries you the most so you can heave a sigh of relief when it is finally done. This action will boost your confidence and will further motivate you to complete easier tasks on your list.

Set Deadlines

You cannot waste an entire morning just checking emails. Without setting a limit into each activity on your list, it is possible to get lost in one task for a longer time than needed. It is  therefore a must to set a realistic target time into finishing each one. Giving yourself a deadline is like gently pushing yourself to focus on the task and get it done. This practice will also help you organize your workflow and prioritize the tasks.

Learn To Say No

You cannot do everything and please everybody. So think twice before saying yes to a co-worker who needs help in her project or to a boss who is giving you extra obligation. This  does not mean you are being selfish or uncooperative. Sometimes, you just have to say no if the favor being asked would hinder you from finishing your own responsibilities. If you are hesitant or unsure that you can be of any assistance, it is better to say no early on than make a promise you cannot keep.

The ability to get things done fast is one of the traits that sets achievers apart from the rest. So instead of wishing for more hours in a day, it is a wiser decision to aim to work smarter. By enhancing your productivity, you are gaining a skill that will make you indispensable everywhere you go.

The Key to Finding True Wisdom

The Key to Finding True Wisdom

Often times, the terms ‘wisdom’ and ‘knowledge’ get thrown around interchangeably, but the truth is that these two terms mean and stand for wildly different concepts. Knowledge is what you gain from learning and experiencing things throughout life. However, wisdom, on the other hand, is the ability to use your knowledge to discern what is good or right. Therefore, you cannot have wisdom without knowledge. But the key to finding true knowledge is more than just learning from your experiences and knowing the difference between right and wrong. In fact, there are three major components that contribute to finding true wisdom.

Chase after inspiration

Finding true wisdom requires a great deal of honesty with yourself. You have to know what inspires you to keep on trudging along your path of life. Find out what inspires you, what fills your mind and body with life, and what leaves you feeling significant to the world around you. Whatever that is for you, chase it with all you have. Go after your passions, your dreams, and the life you’ve always wanted for yourself and for your family with the utmost determination and enthusiasm. But this requires staying inspired and doing whatever it is that moves you. In doing so, you will learn things about yourself and the world you never knew before.

Find out your weaknesses

This kind of honesty with yourself extends beyond just knowing what inspires you. You also have to figure out your weaknesses. No matter how successful you are in life, you will always have weaknesses simply because of the fact that you are human. Even the most successful people in life have weaknesses––they just know how to overcome them. So figure out whatever it is that holds you back from chasing after your dreams. In doing so, you can learn how to best overcome it.

Choose the right path

Once you have identified both what motivates you and what sets you back, you have to use this knowledge and apply it your life. Make the right decisions that fuel your passions and help you overcome your weaknesses. And by navigating through life by learning what moves you and what holds you back, you will ultimately discover true wisdom. You will learn to make decisions that are rooted solely in the fact of pursuing your dreams.

Wisdom is not easy to come by, but if you follow these three tips, you will find it in the truest form.

3 Holiday Mantras You Should Implement into Your Daily Life

3 Holiday Mantras You Should Implement into Your Daily Life

The holidays are loaded with positive messages. Everything from Christmas carols and family Christmas cards to the commercials you hear on T.V. contains the good wishes that are so characteristic of the holiday season. But these good-intentioned reminders should be heard more often than one month of the year. Make an honest effort to bring the holiday spirit into your everyday life by keeping the holiday mantras alive year-round. Here are 3 holiday mantras you should implement in your daily life.

Joy to the world

Joy to the world is perhaps one of the most iconic sayings of the Christmas season. And for a very good reason. Bringing joy to those around is the best way to celebrate the holiday season. But it’s important to understand the word “joy” in order to let this mantra define your living and your life. Joy is often times used interchangeably with the word “happiness.” However, it’s important to note that joy is so much more than a form of happiness. While happiness is that pleasant and cheery state of being, joy is a feeling that stays with you and can be felt by yourself and shared with others at the same time.

So bring this mantra into your daily life by making and effort to truly share your joy with everyone you interact with.

Be merry and bright

Likewise, the words “merry” and “bright” have become iconic to the Christmas season. But if you incorporate this phrase into the rest of your year, take a moment to decide what this phrase means to you. Maybe to you, being merry all year long means reaching out to others to positively influence them in any way you can. And perhaps maintaining a bright spirit throughout the year means constantly radiating whatever values are important to you and your family––radiate grace in everything you do, radiate optimism to those who may be lacking some, and radiate happiness like you’re made of the stuff.

It’s better to give than to receive

The spirit of giving is never stronger than it is during the holiday season. But your community is in need all year long. Become a beacon of hope to others by living out this mantra in your daily life and adopt a giving mindset every single day. By keeping this holiday mantra in mind all year long, you will experience the truest form of joy by helping the people who need it most.

The holidays are filled with all kinds of positive reminders to truly make this season one of the most wonderful times of the year. But keep these holiday mantras in mind all year long to keep the spirit alive in your daily life.

One of the best ways to introduce a new way of thinking into your life and reconstruct your thought patterns is to practice positive affirmations on a daily basis. These small, daily self-reminders work to reset the way you think and promote more positive, productive thinking into your life.  In doing so, you create a practice that shifts your focus, realigns your priorities, and reminds you of the blessings that are present in your life. Rely on these 3 daily affirmations to live a better and more productive life.

Happiness is my birthright

Reminding yourself that you deserve happiness is one of the most consistent ways to remain happy. Let go of the stigma that you have to do something to earn your own happiness, and learn to truly let yourself just be happy. If you go through life with the mindset that you don’t have to do anything to warrant a good mood, your life will be filled with exponentially more joy. Not to mention, this increase in optimism makes it easier to jump out of bed each and every day ready to take on whatever life throws at you.

Every day I wake up is another chance to increase my success

The first step to living a happier life is to stop living in survival mode. Stop treating every day like a deadline. Instead, wake up with the mindset that today is a gift. Each day is another opportunity and another chance to get one step closer to making your dreams become a reality. If you embrace each day with this mindset, your productivity will skyrocket.

I am capable of whatever I set my mind to

Begin each day by telling yourself that you believe in your own ability to make your goals a reality. Reminding yourself that you are capable of achieving whatever it is that you set your mind to is one of the surest ways to remain positive and make progress in the direction of your dreams. And keeping your self-confidence intact is imperative to success.

Be sure to fill your mind with positive and nourishing thoughts in order to make the most of your life. Use these 3 daily affirmations to live a better life.

Where Does Greatness Live?

Where Does Greatness Live?

In going through the motions, most people never really stop to ask themselves, “Is what I’m doing right now in service of the greater good?” Most people just keep chugging along with no idea about where greatness lives or where greatness comes from. To put it simply, greatness lives outside of your comfort zone. Just how far outside that comfort zone depends on the person; it depends on how great their dreams are and what they hope to achieve.

Let’s dive a little bit deeper into that question. Where does greatness live?

Greatness Lives in Small Acts of Kindness

“Greatness” as a concept can seem like a lofty ideal, one that’s reserved for people who conquer mountains—or countries. But, in truth, greatness lives in small acts of kindness.

Those small acts of kindness, spread out over the course of a lifetime, make up greatness; they signify strength of character and a willingness to pay it forward. Through small acts of kindness, a single person can send ripples out and change the world.

Greatness Lives in Pushing Boundaries

No person has ever become truly great by staying in their figurative lane, by playing it safe, or by blindly following a leader.

Greatness comes from testing boundaries and pushing back on commonly held notions of the ways things should be. If no one ever questioned the status quo, there would be no electricity, no cars, no air travel. It’s the boundary-pushers that have defined history and continue to shape our modern definition of greatness.

Greatness Lives in Camaraderie

“No man is an island,” wrote John Donne. Though those words were scribed centuries ago, they ring true to this day. Because no one goes through life one hundred percent alone, it’s important to recognize the role that camaraderie plays in greatness.

The people you choose to spend your time, and ultimately your life, with will considerably impact your chance at achieving greatness. If you want to be great, you have to surround yourself with greatness.

True greatness lives in camaraderie and in developing meaningful relationships with people who have the same visions, goals, and aspirations as you do.
